Late blog this morning as was busy early, but just popping in to say have a great weekend all! The countdown begins and next week I will be posting short extracts of some of my published short stories and maybe novel extracts too on here in my own countdown until Friday!
So watch this space folks!
Here is a simple message. I have been thinking a lot about all my lovely clients and the way we often become friends. I feel as if we are all in a dream factory; we support one another towards our goals. It’s important to have those dreams — those things that get us out of bed in the morning. If we have no drive then we have no sense of purpose in life. So today I am celebrating dreams and hopes and wishes. If anyone has ever knocked those down, said dreaming of being a writer (or whatever your dream) is all ‘pie in the sky’ use that anger to fuel your drive all the more.
It is not easy being a writer and rejection is part of that, but for every rejection you learn, you move forward, YOU MUST be receptive to criticism and take it as a place to learn from. If you believe: YOU WILL succeed.
Have a great Monday and an amazing week everyone!
It’s a simple sweet and important message for us all. I truly believe that making plans, however big or small those may be, is the key to a healthy attitude and a healthy life.
I feel blessed with the life I have and the ability to look ahead and dream BIG. I think it has always been in me, even from a child and I have managed to keep that alive even when life was dark. I think the only time in my life I didn’t feel that buzz of excitement about life was in those painful months, years even, after Lee died. But even then I worked on that very first novel to its completion. In fact that’s how writing became my saviour.
Today I celebrate life for its ups and downs but for most of the people, most of the time, it’s okay, right? It’s all about the ups and even in the troughs, we lift our heads and peer over, we stay focussed on what will be and what we have; not what we don’t have.
That is all. Have a wonderful day!
Well our talk on Friday went very well. We had some lovely comments after we all shared our experiences in the world of publishing to an interested and captive audience.
I had a box of 16 books with me and only went home with 3, so think it went well! Nice to think people will have my novel as Christmas presies. Dad also signed copies of the Jet-Set books as well, sold a few of them 🙂
I started with a slide with my name and underneath in BIG letters Writer. then editor in smaller letters and finally publisher in smaller letters still and explained how first and foremost I see myself as a writer and what a great privilege it is to be able to stand in front of a room of people and say I am a writer. This is what I am and this is what I do.
On Saturday I will be on London with my editor and publisher hat on celebrating the new Bridge House book Snowflakes and the new CafeLit book, best of (volume 4). I love that day as I get to meet writers, some who I have known for a while or got to know when editing and it’s so lovely to be able to put a face to a name!
And tomorrow as December arrives I can finally let Christmas in! Yay!
That’s it for today folks! Have a good one!
Welcome to June! This month sees me at the London Short Story Festival on June 20th attending various events including Unthology and then a week later a weekend in Norwich where I will be celebrating the launch of Unthology 7 with some of the other authors and reading my short story! June 25th if you live local!
I also hope to finish or be close to finishing the first draft of the new novel.
And even though I am mad busy I am looking forward to lunch and a walk with a lovely writer friend and her friend tomorrow!
I love the squeaky clean feel of a new month. Don’t you?
Simple Friday message.
It seems in my extreme busyness I find the more I do, the more the work comes.
The more I write, the more the ideas flow.
The more I win, the more I keep winning.
It is the Law of Attraction working.
Ask and ye shall receive.
I wish you an abundance of wonderful things this weekend.
No blog Monday. I will be writing and working but it is a bank hols so hopefully a little down time too!
Have a good one!
The writer’s journey is not always paved with marble stone and clear signposts. Nor is the road straight and the ride easy.
We might well start off with a clear destination in mind, imagine a Sat Nav where you punch in your final destination. What will yours be? Perhaps you start with a simple goal: finish this story. Perhaps you start with a very clear ambition: win the Man Booker. The course is set. Now you set off.
But what happens in the in-between can change that goal post. Some of you will find the path tortuous and tough going. Road works and diversions. Some of you will turn back.
Some of you will keep going despite those diversions, picking up passengers along the way and embracing new directions. You might allow others to change the goal, recalculate the destination, or you might allow the Sat Nav to do that. Are you a passive bystander in your own destiny or do you take an active role?
Either way you still need to see that flag.
Expect unexpected road closures and dead ends.
Expect the nice surprises; new roads and faster times.
But always be prepared.
And when you reach your goal, you have probably already programmed a new destination because if you don’t dream big you will only ever reach the end of the street.
Where will your road take you?
Keep the destination in mind at all times; but enjoy the ride.
Have a great Thursday!
Aim for the Rainbow…
